I have always wanted to read the books from the collection of 'Bercakap Dengan Jin', written by Tamar Jalis since I-don't-know-when. When my cousin bought it (I was probably 7 years old that time), I was very attracted to the front cover of every book, which feature scary illustrations; and each book has a different title. I have read serie 5 (Langsuir) and 6 (Ibu Santau). Currently reading 7th serie (Bomoh).
After reading them, I have discovered a few types of black magic and most of them I have already heard about; except for this one, that I read about in the 7th installment of the series. It is called 'ilmu papan sekeping'. I have tried to Google it but cannot seem to find anything relevant to it.
According to the book, it is a type of black magic cast on women, mostly wives, to lock their beauty and sex appeal from the naked eyes of other men when their husbands are away. How? I'll try my best to explain it.
It's originated from a place in southern India, brought into our country by Indian immigrants. Most of them were already married and upon leaving, they had cast the black magic unto their wives, in order to avoid them to commit adultery with other men. Therefore, no matter how beautiful the woman is (even if she's like Jessica Alba...lol), she will appear to be undesirable to other men's eyes. Getting laid with them too, doesn't make you feel anything. According to the writer, as told by his late grandfather in this book, people who practise this black magic usually keep a piece of wood taken from the coffin of anyone who died bleeding. The piece of wood will be cut into small pieces and will be kept inside a black box in a certain place, or buried underground. To initiate this black magic, they will acquire 3 strands of the woman's hair that fall onto her pillow after she has woken up. The hair will be looped around one of the many pieces of the wood. Then they will be kept or buried. Some would just dispose it into the ocean.
This black magic is claimed to be very cruel towards women since it will deny them of their nature to be desired.
Anyway, I am really looking forward to read more of this, eventhough Tamar Jalis's writing kind of lacks emotion.
Black magic is seriously weird...
